Centopeia, the indoor seating recognizable for its evocative shape resembling a centipede, is on display until September 8 at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai as part of the exhibition “Impermanence – 40 Years of Estúdio Campana,” the first major exhibition in Asia dedicated to the Brazilian designers, co-curated by Marco Sammicheli and Gong Yan.
The exhibition focuses on the studio’s cultural production through a presentation of objects, projects, drawings, and works that best synthesize the work of the two brothers, the studio’s trajectories and insights, including the product designed in 2022 for Paola Lenti.
Centopeia is part of the Metamorfosi collection, a special edition of unique pieces that balance art and design. Through these pieces, Paola Lenti, adopting a more conscious model of raw material use, proposes a renewed dialogue between innovation, craftsmanship, and ethical responsibility.
Paola Lenti is pleased to have contributed with Centopeia to the creative history of the Campana brothers, recognized for their peculiar creative process, aimed at ennobling common materials, poetically enhancing typically Brazilian cultural elements such as color, cross-pollination, creative chaos, and the beauty of simple solutions, as well as their ability to combine craftsmanship, sustainable production practices, and cutting-edge technologies.
“Impermanence – 40 Years of Estúdio Campana” also features the original prototype of Zoide, another unmistakable seating from the Metamorfosi collection, characterized by long movable tentacles.
